Giants Rise in Minneapolis

This spring, the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) is set to unveil a cultural tour de force that promises to be one of the most significant art events of the year. Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys makes its highly anticipated premiere on March 8, 2025, offering visitors an extraordinary glimpse into a collection that champions the power, beauty, and resilience of Black artistry.

Curated by the Brooklyn Museum and fueled by the passionate collecting of Grammy-winning power couple Swizz Beatz (Kasseem Dean) and Alicia Keys, Giants is more than just an exhibition—it is a movement. Nearly 100 works from some of the most influential and groundbreaking Black artists of the diaspora will be on display, creating a dynamic conversation across generations and mediums.

A Visionary Collection on Display

Visitors can expect to see masterpieces by legendary names such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Gordon Parks, Lorna Simpson, and Amy Sherald, alongside emerging talents shaping the future of contemporary art. Each piece in Giants is a testament to the Dean Collection’s mission: to uplift and empower artists, ensuring that their legacies are not just preserved but celebrated.

What sets this collection apart is its deeply personal curation. Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys are not just collectors—they are passionate advocates for the artists they champion. Their belief that “artists are the real celebrities” is embedded in every acquisition, and Giants reflects their unwavering commitment to the creative voices that have reshaped the cultural landscape.

A Cultural Event Not to Be Missed

Minneapolis, a city with a rich artistic heritage and a deep appreciation for social justice and cultural discourse, is the perfect setting for Giants. With its premiere at Mia’s Target Galleries, the exhibition will serve as a meeting ground for artists, historians, and visionaries alike—inviting audiences to engage with works that challenge, inspire, and illuminate.
