Roach’s Rizz Overwhelms Judges as They Deliver a False Draw

A Glowing Review of Lamont Roach vs. Gervonta 'Tank' Davis

On Saturday, March 1, 2025, the boxing world was treated to an electrifying showdown between Lamont Roach and Gervonta "Tank" Davis. The fight took place in a packed Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, where fans eagerly awaited a battle that would determine supremacy in the WBA Lightweight World Championship division.

The stakes were high, with both fighters vying for the coveted title, and the prize purse reportedly reaching substantial amounts for both fighters.

From the opening bell, Roach demonstrated why he is considered one of the most technically sound fighters in the division. His movement was impeccable, his defense precise, and his ability to read Tank’s approach was evident.

However, Roach’s inexperience became apparent throughout the fight. While he prided himself on his ability to withstand a punch from Davis—something he did impressively—he fell short in his ability and confidence to deliver punches of his own.

Several of Roach’s punches lacked the weight of his confidence, and despite landing cleanly, they lacked the impact needed to truly challenge Davis. Though the judges credited Roach for his accuracy, there was a noticeable gap in the potency of his shots.

Despite this, Roach brought undeniable fire to the ring, albeit with a few poorly chosen moments of unsportsmanlike conduct. One such instance occurred when Davis turned to speak with the referee—Roach took the opportunity to land a questionable shot.

Surprisingly, it went unchecked, setting the stage for a ninth-round response from Davis that was equally cunning.

In a moment of strategic deception, Tank appeared to squat as if to take a knee, seemingly tending to something in his eye. As confusion momentarily reigned, Davis sold the act to perfection—only to spring back into action and deliver a relentless assault that made the final three rounds of the fight the most grueling for Roach. It was a masterclass in psychological warfare, and while some may argue it bordered on gamesmanship, it was a move that solidified Davis’s dominance in the later rounds.

The fight ultimately went to the judges, who delivered a controversial draw. It was clear that many wanted Roach to emerge victorious, but there simply wasn’t enough behind his performance to warrant the decision. While he showcased elite skills, his lack of risk-taking and failure to capitalize on key moments left the outcome hanging in the balance. Davis, on the other hand, made sure that when he struck, it counted.

For those who missed it, we’ve included the full fight for reference—because while the judges may have seen a draw, the ring told a different story.

HERE'S THE FULL FIGHT. IF YOU DIDN'T CATCH IT, LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK IN THE COMMENTS.
