Scripture Focus

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” — Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)
“Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?” — Amos 3:3 (NIV)
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” — Psalm 37:4 (ESV)

Reflection

Dating in this modern world can feel like wandering through a wilderness of distractions, mixed signals, and half-truths. But during Lent—a time of holy clarity and returning to what matters—we are reminded that God is not confused about your love life. He is not indifferent to your longing for partnership, intimacy, or companionship. In fact, He cares deeply about it.

But here’s the truth: dating is a spiritual matter. Who you link arms with affects your pace, your peace, and your purpose. That’s why this season calls us to date with discernment and devotion—not just to a person, but to God's process.

What Does Holy Dating Look Like?

  1. Purposeful, Not Aimless God isn’t calling us to date just to fill space or escape loneliness. He calls us to pursue relationships that reflect His heart, not just satisfy ours.

  2. Prayerful, Not Pressured Are you praying as much as you’re texting? Have you asked God not just if someone likes you—but if they’re sent? The Holy Spirit can reveal red flags that charm and chemistry often conceal.

  3. Pure, Not Performative It’s okay to desire love—but not at the cost of your standards, values, or sacred boundaries. Who you are becoming in the process matters more than the status you post.

  4. Patient, Not Panicked God’s timing isn’t late—it’s perfect. Desperation leads to detours, but trust leads to alignment. Stay rooted in the belief that if He made Eve for Adam, and Ruth for Boaz, He can surely author your story too.

Prayer for Dating with Purpose

Lord, You see my heart and every hope tucked inside it. Teach me to trust Your timing and honor Your wisdom in my relationships. Let me not settle for what’s available but wait for what’s anointed. Make me whole—not just for someone else, but because You call me worthy and beloved. In all things, may I date with devotion to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Lenten Reflection Questions

  • Am I inviting God into my dating life—or just reacting to my desires?

  • Is the person I’m interested in bringing me closer to God—or distracting me from Him?

  • How can I use this season to become the partner I am praying for?

Lenten Action Step

Fast from emotional distractions. Whether it’s social media comparisons, toxic text threads, or overthinking your relationship status—take a break. Use that time to pray, reflect, and ask God to reveal what love really means for your life.

Final Word

Dating isn’t just about finding someone. It’s about becoming someone—someone who honors God, guards their heart, and walks with wisdom.

This Lent, invite God to be the author of your love story. He writes the best ones.

Xoxo,
